Price Reading Challenge October 21, 2008

All first graders have been challenged to read 66 books over the next few months as participants in the Price Reading Challenge. Every first grader has received a reading log that should be completed at home. When your child completes their reading log return it to school so that your child can record their books on their Price Penguin Reading Log. Students may use any books that they read independently or with a parent on their reading log. When reading encourage your child to read fluently (as if they are speaking), pause at commas and ending marks, and to read with expression!!!

Study Books August 25, 2008

Today your child received their very own study book! The study book is used to assist your child in practicing their vocabulary words (sight words). Your child’s study book will be sent home every night (even if there is not a new page assigned), and it should be returned to school everyday.  Students should practice the words/skills in their study book every night. After you complete a page with your child please initial and date it. After your child has completed their assigned study page for the night, it is strongly encouraged to have your child go back and study previous pages.

Welcome to First Grade 2008-2009 August 9, 2008

Filed under: News & Updates — hdunlap @ 2:17 am

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

Welcome to First Grade! I am looking forward to working with you and your child. We are going to have a busy year full of “hands on” learning. Pleasantville’s ”Back to School Night” will be held on August 19th from 4:00pm – 6:00pm. This will allow you and your child to get a sneak peek of their classroom. Hopefully “Back to School Night” will help to ease some of those first day jitters. For now, continue reading with your child everyday, and brushing up on concepts learned in Kindergarten. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

-Miss Dunlap
